Background

Horse Cavalry-0

Horse Cavalry (Service Patch). Worn below King's Army Insignia on left shoulder.

The Jod Military Force still retain the services of a Horse Cavalry. The "Cavalry," as its very simply known, acts as the primary cavalry force on the Planet of Jod, as well as serving as reconnaissance, hit-and-run tactics, escort duties, and honor guard. The soldiers that ride the horses are called Cavalry Troopers and are considered some of the best trained troops in the King's Army.

Horse Cavalry is often paired with the Cavalry Mountain Gun Howitzer.

Modern Tactics

While not expected to go toe-to-toe with modern motorized armor, the cavalry does provide a military commander with flexibility. In addition to reconnaissance, hit-and-run tactics, and escort duties, Horse Cavalry are also utilized at navigating mountainous or forestry terrains where modern armor cannot pass.

Despite the waning effectiveness of cavalry units against modern motorized armor & the overall application in modern Jod Military Force tactics, the horse cavalry has still remained a central part in many Jod military commanders' tactics.

Organization

The Horse Cavalry is organized into Battalion strength at maximum (at the Division level), with most units attached to His Majesty's Infantry's various units at Company strength.

Horse Cavalry Platoon

  • Total Platoon Personnel: 54
  • Total Animals: 58
    • Horses: 44
    • Oxen: 14
  • Wagons: 5
    • Conestoga Wagons: 4
    • Chuckwagon: 1

While attached to a General Combat Regiment, as is common practice, Horse Cavalry will be deployed in a platoon of 44 Cavalry Troopers and their war horses. Attached to the platoon is oftentimes 4 Conestoga Wagons, hauled by 2 Oxen with a third Ox in tow as backup, and 1 Chuckwagon with two Oxen. The Chuckwagon carries food & equipment to feed the platoon's troopers. All together, the wagon support is driven by 9 Teamsters (wagoner); 2 per Conestoga Wagon and 1 wagoner and 1 cook on the Chuckwagon. The Conestoga Wagons transport food, supplies, & equipment for the horses and troopers.

The logistical support of 5 wagons allows the Horse Cavalry Platoon to be completely independent from operations within the General Combat Regiment, if such action is warranted.

Motorized Armor

All Horse Cavalry are cross-trained with Motorized Armor and vice-versa.
