The Free the Droids Movement (FDM) is a far left activism group for the support of Droid Rights, traditionally targeting college students for recruitment. Billing themselves as a free thought organization for the equality and life of droids, the organization arose with the Jods Against Droid Violence (ADV) around the same time in 26 BBY. While the FDM & ADV originally both had peaceful activism goals, the Free the Droids Movement has becoming increasingly more of a radical political-societal organization, causing the ADV to ideologically separate from the FDM publicly in 15 BBY.
Despite ADV's public rebuttal of FDM, most Jod citizens cannot tell the difference between the two groups at rallies & protests and because of this blurred identity line, most people blame the ADV for FDM violence (weakening the overall Droid Rights message for both activism groups). Because of their increasingly violent tactics, most people feel that the FDM is in fact an arm of The Cause. However, the Domestic Intelligence & Defense Agency (DIDA) has not formerly labeled FDM as associated with The Cause, allowing the FDM to swell their ranks of willing volunteers without the title of domestic terrorism or hate group attached to their recruitment efforts.
