Background

The Centax-3 Immediate Defense and Military Testing Facility, oftentimes shortened to just IDT, is a new Imperial Department of Military Research (IDMR) facility, built after the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY. While far from "secret" being on one of Coruscant's moon (Centax-3), it is nonetheless highly secured.

Projects

Known projects either in concept stages, planning stages, prototype stages, active final development, transferred from other IDMR facilities, completed, or canceled at C-IDT include:

Layout, Exterior Defenses, and Garrison

Layout

The spread out and large main mountainous tropical island and its associated grouping of six other islands around it (connected via both underwater tunnels and above water bridges) was isolated in and of itself, far away from any population centers on the greater moon, and strictly patrolled and monitored by the Imperial Military and off-limits to everyone without clearance. The main mountainous island was the location of an abandoned mining operation near a long-dead volcano in the center of the island, the tropical island had been converted to a highly secured military base; the former mining tunnels had been converted into top secret research labs, underground hangers, and massive storage and factory areas, while above ground was a miniature military city in it's own right. The smaller surrounding islands had been converted into an military airfield on one island including three squadrons of TIE Fighters and a squadron of TIE Bombers both equipped with the new Imperial Tactics doctrine, a space defense battery on another island (a single w-165 Planetary Turbolaser supported by three HVs-2 Hypervelocity Guns), a seaport and spaceport on another island for military uses only, while a fourth island held several above ground factories and warehouses, and two other islands provided facilities for the garrisoned legion that protected the base.

Defenses

Both the main island and its smaller islands were defended by a network of military defenses including Anti-Aircraft Guns and Bp.5 Anti-Aircraft Turrets against air attack, while Bp.2 Anti-Infantry Turrets and Bp.4 Anti-Vehicle Turrets supported by strong defensive trench systems provided for ground defense. Additional security checkpoints and security zones prevented unauthorized personnel from going to places they should not. A multi-layered deflector shield with multiple backup generators and fail-safes protected the main island and its smaller surrounding islands in their entirety, the deflector shield generator powerful enough to reach into low orbit and provide a wide array of shield arrangements (the generator was located on the main island).

Garrison Staff and Troops

Staffed mostly by the Imperial Army and Imperial Navy in terms of base personnel (with a small civilian workforce), a garrison of a Stormtrooper Corps' full Legion equipped with specialized Imperial Stormtrooper Forest Camouflage Armor and Imperial Scout Trooper Forest Camouflage Armor included Stormtroopers, Scout Troopers (with their own 74-Z Speeder Bikes), Coastal Defender Stormtroopers (in their normal armor color), Heavy Weapons Stormtroopers, Artillery Stormtroopers, Rocket Stormtroopers, Incinerator Stormtroopers, and Stormtrooper Commanders provided defensive operations.

An entire armored detachment complete with their own Imperial Combat Assault Tank Pilots & Imperial Combat Assault Tank Pilots, AT-ST Pilots, AT-AT Pilots, Imperial Combat Drivers, Imperial Machinists & Imperial Technicians, and repair droids crewed and piloted 60 614-AvA Speeder Bikes, 50 MTV-7 Multi-Terrain Vehicles, 40 K79-S80 Imperial Troop Transports, 30 TX-225 GAVw "Occupier" Combat Assault Tanks, 20 AT-STs, 10 AT-ATs in support of the legion's operations. Classically, the legion would operate with seven "AT-AT Defensive Groups" (Alpha through Golf) assigned to each island of one AT-AT with 2 AT-STs, 3 Occupier Combat Assault Tanks, 4 Imperial Troop Transports, and 5 MTV-7s in combat task forces, military patrols, or escort formations around the AT-AT, while 6 Ava Speeder Bikes provided reconnaissance. The other three "AT-AT Attack Groups" (assigned Hotel, India, Juliet and equipped similarly with armored vehicles) were able to freely engage targets as assigned by command across the entire base or reinforce a depleted defensive group.

Each AT-AT Group (both Defensive and Attack) was supported by the AT-AT's own 40 Stormtroopers and 30 Stormtroopers assigned to the 3 Imperial Troop Transports---the 4th ITT was converted into a general purpose transport and prisoner transport as needed---the 70 combat troops total broken up into:

  • AT-AT; Two 4-man Artillery Team including 1 Artillery Stormtrooper each supported by 2 Rocket Stormtroopers each and each team lead by a single Coastal Defender Stormtrooper equipped with a E-22 Blaster Rifle
  • ITT; 21 regular stormtroopers each with E-11 Blaster Rifles (7 per transport) and 9 Heavy Weapons Stormtroopers (3 per transport; 2 DLT-19D Heavy Blaster Rifles, 1 T-21 Light Repeating Blaster)

A specialized detachment of 200 Cave Troopers (1 company) and 200 Magma Troopers (1 company) within the legion provided a quick reaction response force for security concerns within both the populated and abandoned mining tunnels and within the volcano itself, as well as regularly patrolling the ghostly abandoned tunnels left unused. Limited detachments within the legion included Bomb Squad Stormtroopers (3 squads), Radiation Zone Assault Troopers (3 squads), EVO Troopers (3 squads), Imperial Heavy Troopers (3 squads), Wetland Assault Stormtroopers (3 squads), Aquatic Assault Stormtroopers (1 platoon), and Imperial Jump Troopers (1 platoon); the troops' limited numbers providing specialized military responses as needed. A platoon of black armored Storm Commandos was also attached to the legion and were reserved for top secret security assignments and military responses to support in defense of the base.

Apart from the legion, the classic white-armored Patrol Troopers (each assigned their own C-PH Patrol Speeder Bike if on exterior patrol) provided everyday routine security, patrol, and military law enforcement on the base and its surrounding islands, while similar classic white-armored Range Troopers provided security for the singular 20-T Railcrawler Conveyex Transport that crisscrossed the underground tunnels and across the island and its chain islands' surfaces. The only non-Stormtroopers (aside from the armored detachment's pilots and mechanics) in a combat or security role on the entire island and its surrounding group of islands was the detachment of white-armored Imperial Navy Commandos that secured sensitive areas in the base alongside a security regiment of Imperial Navy Troopers that provided physical security for general access areas and the prison facilities, while also proving remote security camera monitoring throughout the entire base.
